Life has its way of rushing past you in a blink. But I am back at it now and ready to re-open Kind of a Hurricane Press!

This is going to be a small-scale re-opening. We are going to start by re-opening one on-line journal, Pyrokinection. Please not it will no longer be a daily posting journal, but a weekly publishing online journal. We may revert back to the daily posts in the future, but for current time-management purposes, it will be weekly. How many poems/poets I will be publishing each week will depend on you. I don't want to set to many rules and boundaries. We're just gonna go with the flow.

Additionally, I will be announcing one anthology theme and deadline in the next month or so. This will be a digital anthology for sure, possibly a print anthology. Again, depending on how things go.

I will be announcing new guidelines for all of this very soon.

I have missed you all and cannot wait to see what you have been up to while I was gone!
A.J. In creating the first
anthology of 2016, Secrets & Dreams (346 pages), Kind of a Hurricane Press asked our authors to delve into
the deepest and darkest aspects of their lives – their secrets and their dreams.
The result was as magical as it was
divers. As always, our authors filled our pages with wild and wide-reaching
imagination. We believe Secrets &
Dreams will connect with all of our readers. Enjoy.

Storm Cycle 2015: The Best of Kind of a Hurricane Press (432 pages) is a compilation of the editors' favorite pieces from the six 2015 online journals as well as our six 2015 print anthologies. A tireless search for poetic talent proved exceptionally fruitful, and the selection process for this anthology was brutal. After a great deal of reading, re-reading, and discussion, the editors amassed an extremely diverse and eclectic body of work to put forth to represent what Kind of a Hurricane Press is about: publishing the best poetry and flash fiction being crafted today.

When we started the review site, we never dreamed we would get the amount of interest that we have. While this is a wonderful thing, we quickly have fallen behind in the production of reviews. Since we absolutely do not want to cut the amount of time and attention we give to each chapbook or book, we find ourselves in need of new reviewers to pick up the slack. Therefore, anyone interested in reviewing for Black & White Gets Read should send an email to kindofahurricanepress(at)yahoo.com with either a list of previous review publications or with a sample review. To get an idea of the kind of reviews we are looking for, please read our previous review history here: Black & White Gets Read

Storm Cycle 2014: The Best of Kind of a Hurricane Press (510 pages) is a compilation of the editors' favorite pieces from the six 2014 online journals as well as our six 2014 print anthologies.

In creating the third anthology of 2015, Objects in the Rear View Mirror (188 pages), Kind of a Hurricane Press asked our authors to let their imaginations rev up the highways and cruise down the backstreets of their minds. As always, our authors filled our literary parking garages with amazing work. So roll the windows down, turn the radio up, and enjoy poetry and fiction from the open road. We believe Objects in the Rear View Mirror will take you on a journey to some place uniquely interesting. Enjoy.

A.J. Huffman and April Salzano have created a satirical and humorous chapbook that turns the elements of a "Happily Ever After" life on its ear. They have merged their unique voices to create one vision of that blurry, blurry line that divides love and hate.

Neil Ellman specializes in ekphrastic poetry written in response to works of modern and contemporary art. While never merely describing and mirroring these works, Ellman reacts to them based on his own sensibilities and perspectives. Included in the collection are twenty poems based on works by such surrealists as Max Ernst and Salvador Dali, and such abstractionists as Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell.
